Puppy Day Care
Puppy Day Care near Rettendon
We are based in Rettendon, so if you have a new puppy here, your commute to daycare is about as short as it gets. Down the lane, through the gate, done. It means less time in the car for a young dog that may still be getting used to travel, and a quick journey home when the session finishes.
Puppy daycare is not simply adult daycare with younger dogs. Everything is different: the group sizes, the session lengths, the activities, and the goals. We are not trying to tire your puppy out (though that happens naturally). We are trying to give them a rich, varied, positive foundation of social experiences during the weeks when their brain is most receptive.
Our puppy groups max out at five or six, with dedicated staff for every session. Puppies play together, investigate new objects and surfaces, experience gentle handling, and learn the basics of dog-to-dog communication. When play gets too rough, staff redirect. When a puppy needs a break, they get one. Every session is designed to end on a positive note.
Patch, a nine-week-old Jack Russell from Rettendon Common, was the smallest puppy we had seen in a while. His owner was worried about him being overwhelmed by larger puppies. We matched him with a group of similar-energy small breeds for his first few sessions, then gradually introduced him to slightly larger puppies as his confidence grew. He now plays happily with dogs of all sizes and his owner credits early daycare with making that possible.
Being in the Rettendon countryside means our setting is natural and calm. Puppies experience grass, gravel, mud, and open air from their very first session. No sterile indoor facility, no fluorescent lights, no echoing concrete. The real world, just in a safe and managed version of it.
Handling is built into every session. We touch paws, look at teeth, brush coats gently, and introduce puppies to the kind of contact they will experience at the vet and the groomer throughout their lives. Starting early makes those future experiences stress-free. Take a look at our preparing for daycare guide for what to bring and what to expect on your first visit.
Wagtails is proud to be part of the Rettendon community. Many of our staff live locally, and the village dogs were among the first to join our puppy programme.
